The Evolving Role of Project Managers and PMI

The world is changing, and projects are more important than ever. Project managers are being asked to support and lead their organizations through times of immense change, people without project knowledge are being asked to lead projects, and organizations are becoming more socially responsible. How do we build the plane while flying it?

The Project Management Institute saw the need to evolve back in 2017, and has been working behind the scenes to become the PMI that people who run projects need it to be. Come learn why we’ve changed, where we’re going, and how we will continue to be the source for project managers of the future.

A3 Project Management

Developed by the Toyota Motor Company, A3 project management reduces key aspects of any project to one 11 x 17 piece of paper. The A3 is at the heart of Toyota’s continuous improvement approach and provides a method for everyone in an organization to become a problem solver. A3 project management is particularly useful for process improvement projects or for someone managing a number of smaller projects. It is equally helpful for the manager responsible for a team of people that each have multiple smaller projects. Attendees will learn both the format and procedure for developing an A3 report. You will be able to put this tool to work in your organization immediately.

She also shares the negative behaviors (what NOT to do) that breakdown team trust and leads to increased time to market, damaged client relationships, higher project costs and ineffective communication. Emotional Intelligence for Project Managers

Put your mask on before helping others (like you are on an airplane) 😊:

Have you PERSONALLY taken any behavior assessments to better understand YOURSELF? Great tools in this area are: Myers Briggs, DiSC Profile, Gallup’s StrengthsFinders (CliftonStrengths)… and many more. YOU are the best investment that you have! I strongly encourage you to take the time to study not only the way you perceive yourself… but, how others perceive you. And, take inventory of your verifiable behavior strengths… along with the behavior opportunities you may have. Leaders come in all forms. And, for some - it’s very natural to regularly recognize other people. Whereas others (and this is not a bad thing) – it’s not necessarily natural to provide recognition. What we do in the Project Management field – in short – we drive change! How do you effectively communicate change and lead teams? One size does not fit all. Let’s explore ways to use simple techniques to better influence teams in every organization to reach awesome outcomes!
